WEDDING INSPIRATIONHOW TO INCLUDE YOUR DOG IN YOUR WEDDING
FEBRUARY 2026If you’ve met me (or watched any of my instagram stories) you know that dogs are a huge part of my life! I have three—I know, who is crazy enough to have three dogs—me apparently. They are apart of my family, keep me active, and are just the best! So, as a dog mama, I encourage and welcome you to include yours at your wedding or elopement. They are part of your relationship too, right? Here are five things I’ve learned from couples saying “I Do” with their dog(s):
Include them, but maybe not in everything. You know your good girl or good boy best. Are they anxious, scared of crowds, sensitive to loud music? Think about their needs, and include them in the parts of your day that fit them.
Hire a dog sitter or a friend to help. If you have a friend or family member who doesn’t mind taking over care, have them help get your dog food, water, and bring them where you need them! If you don’t have anyone, consider hiring a dog sitter to bring them to and from the wedding, so you don’t have to worry about them during dinner or the reception.
Exercise and show them the space beforehand. If your venue allows, bring them to check out the space a day or two before, so they can get familiar and smell everything.
Prep their accessories. A lot of couples choose to order custom leashes, collars or bandanas (so cute!!), but don’t open them or test them until the day of. Make sure any custom accessories fit and are adjusted, so they are visible in photos.
Prioritize these moments with them: If you are having a first look or private vows, invite them along, so they can be included in candid, emotional portraits with you! Have your dog helper bring them to family portraits, wedding party photos—because they are obviously the most important family member. And have them walk down the aisle with you or a member of your family.
